Oprichting ‘Jos Mastop Beregening’

1998

Jos Mastop start zijn eigen bedrijf na 16 jaar ervaring in de tuinbouwsector.

Overname elektra bedrijf Ferwerda

2002

Jos Mastop Beregening neemt elektrabedrijf Ferwerda over, wat de mogelijkheid biedt om zowel watertechnische als elektrotechnische installaties te verzorgen.

Naamswijziging naar Mastop Totaaltechniek

2003

Met de uitbreiding naar elektrotechniek ontstaat de naam Mastop Totaaltechniek. Het bedrijf biedt nu een totaaloplossing voor kwekers: teeltvloeren, beregening en elektra.

Start van onderzoek naar vochthuishouding

2004

Mastop Totaaltechniek onderzoekt de mogelijkheid om kwekers te helpen efficiënter om te gaan met water door vochtwaarden in potten te meten. De onderzoeksresultaten worden gepubliceerd in een vakblad en trekken de aandacht van bedrijven die zich bezighouden met groene gevels.

Oprichting Aquafrique in Marokko

2005

Mastop Totaaltechniek richt Aquaafrique op, een dochteronderneming die zich richt op duurzame irrigatieoplossingen in Marokko. In samenwerking met lokale kwekers worden innovatieve technieken ingezet om efficiënter om te gaan met water. Na enkele jaren wordt het project beëindigd, waarna de focus volledig terugkeert naar de kernactiviteiten van Mastop Totaaltechniek.

Eerste irrigatiesysteem voor groene gevels

2006

Twee bedrijven die zich bezighouden met groene gevels kloppen aan bij Mastop Totaaltechniek. Ze vragen om een irrigatiesysteem met vochtsensoren en afstandsbeheer. Mastop ontwikkelt een oplossing en zet hiermee de eerste stappen in geavanceerde irrigatie voor groenprojecten.

10-jarig bestaan

2008

Mastop Totaaltechniek viert een decennium van innovatie en groei.

Lancering van Irriview

2010

De eerste versie van Irriview wordt gelanceerd. Dit webgebaseerde systeem maakt het mogelijk om irrigatie op afstand te monitoren en te beheren. Hierdoor wordt niet alleen water bespaard, maar kunnen problemen proactief worden opgespoord en opgelost.

Verhuizing naar nieuw pand aan de Frankrijklaan

2021

Vanwege groei en uitbreiding verhuist Mastop Totaaltechniek naar een ruimere en modernere locatie. Het nieuwe pand is volledig duurzaam en werkt zonder gasaansluiting, met 90 zonnepanelen als energiebron.

Groene gevel aan de Frankrijklaan

2022

Het pand aan de Frankrijklaan krijgt een groene upgrade: een gevel vol planten die meebeweegt met de seizoenen. De groene wand is niet alleen een esthetische toevoeging, maar bevordert ook biodiversiteit en draagt bij aan een duurzamere leefomgeving. Interview with Jos Mastop, Founder of Mastop Totaaltechniek

How did your passion for irrigation technology begin?

“I started my career in the horticulture sector, first at Edelman, an importer of houseplants, and later at Houtman, a supplier for horticulture. Container cultivation was emerging at the time, and I became fascinated by the irrigation it required. That fascination grew into a serious interest in irrigation technology. However, working within such organizations left little room for my own ideas. I increasingly felt the ambition to develop sustainable irrigation solutions myself.”

How was Mastop Totaaltechniek founded?

In 1998, Jos took the step to establish Mastop Totaaltechniek. “I began with ornamental garden irrigation in Hillegersberg, an upscale neighborhood in Rotterdam. I started with one client, and soon the neighbors followed,” he says. “The highlight? I quickly built a steady customer base.” Thanks to a loan, he was able to purchase his first van. “I ordered a van, which had a weeks-long delivery time. When I finally went to pick it up, it turned out to be the wrong one, with a double cabin. Frustrating, but eventually, six months later, I could pay for the second van in cash. That was a good year.”

What enabled such rapid growth?

What began as a one-man operation quickly grew into an established name in the sector. Mastop Totaaltechniek distinguished itself through innovative solutions for sustainable water management. Jos saw opportunities in green facades and roof gardens and began specializing in smart irrigation systems. “We developed in horticulture, which not only gave us knowledge in water technology and treatment but also a significant market advantage. Water treatment and quality are often underestimated,” Jos explains. “It’s essential that the water used is of the right quality and properly treated so that plants can absorb it optimally. Now, we help cities green and work on smart solutions for rainwater storage.”

Collaboration with clients and partners is essential, according to Jos. “Working with companies has helped us grow. We innovate together, which also keeps the relationship strong.”

What are Mastop Totaaltechniek’s key innovations?

One of the most groundbreaking innovations from Mastop Totaaltechniek is the Irriview system. This web-based platform allows irrigation systems to be monitored and adjusted remotely. “That was a significant step forward for us. We can log in remotely and intervene directly if necessary,” says Jos.
In addition to Irriview, Mastop recently launched the Blue-Meteo system, an innovative solution for rainwater management. “With Blue-Meteo, we prevent waterlogging during heavy rainfalls and ensure that stored water is available during dry periods,” Jos explains. This weather-dependent retention system buffers rainwater and makes it available when it’s truly needed.

What does the future hold for Mastop Totaaltechniek?

Mastop Totaaltechniek continues to focus on innovation and sustainability. A key pillar of Mastop’s mission is the efficient use of water. “We aim to prevent waste by delivering precisely the right amount of water at the right time,” says Jos. Additionally, Mastop emphasizes the use of frequency-controlled pumps, ensuring that only the necessary amount of energy is consumed. “It’s important to be efficient not only with water but also with energy. Our installations are designed to operate efficiently in both water and energy use,” Jos explains.

“Sustainability for us means not just consuming less but also using what you have more intelligently,” he continues. “With innovative technologies like Blue-Meteo, we aim to help cities not only prevent waterlogging but also better endure dry periods. It’s all about balance and efficiency.”
